From the Defiant Scooter Website:

"For some reason, scooters has meant something small. Not any more. We are different. We think big. We are Defiant."

Pauljo says: Yes! - Just like Burgman 650 riders!

They have already sold them. If I hadn't lost my 20 year old job this week, MINE would be in the next freight truck. My FIRST purchase when I get another job, HONEST. Known about this awhile, just assumed everyone already knew. Mike

Hi Gang

Pappy - thanks for the link. I was aware of this Guy and his scooter design but had not seen in on the move. The vid looks as though it formed part of some sort of aerodynamic test (unfinished paintwork and streamers).

The painted version completed the picture of the motor scooter that Flash Gordon was riding circa 1930!

It is always great to see the innovative things people get up to and the passion they have.

Well Bravo to him and his team. But even if I could, I would not want one -why harness old, heavy, underperforming Harley tech to all that bodywork.

For me, The "sound" of another Harley would be enough, along with good gas milage etc. Add the fact of how many people here in the states who are qualified to work on it compared to my Suzuki, well.....
The deal killer fer me as I think about it is how to keep that motor "cool". I don't see any air flow? Just dreaming anyway. Till I find another job at least!

I went to the Vintage Motor Bike Club National Meet in Portlan IN and there was a Defiant there. The only difference I saw from the pictures on his web site was that in the body there was portholes for cooling. It looks a whole lot different and better in person than it does on the website.

I think he is set up just to sell the frame, fibreglass parts, screen, centre stand and long coontrol cables. I note he has not fixed the pricing on some of those. You also need the donor sportser.

There is a contact telephone number on the website which I quote here:

Defiant Cycle Scooter Company owner and CEO, Tom Wollny, his wife, Caroline and the first Torpedo bodied Defiant. It was Tom's vision to build a Sportster based scooter. After nearly three years of work, the fantastic Defiant is finally here.
For more info or to order, call Mr. Wollny at: 800 - 676 - 1389

Mr. Wollny may be the owner of the company but the guy who designed it is Craig Vetter - a design legend. Check him out at http://www.craigvetter.com/pages/Motorc ... fiant.html

The development mules sported the following motto: "We don't care how they do it in Italy"

While you're on the website, check out his personal 1991 HD Heritage Classic which is up for sale since he now rides a Defiant.

When I visited the site, I ordered a pair of snap vents for $21.95 including shipping. I recall that these did a nice job of ventilating my old Vetter fairing. Hope they'll perform as well on the GIVI.

Back in '76 I rode with a Vetter Terraplane sidecar on a '76 gold Wing standard. A great rig.

Regards,

Dan
