Hello, people y name is Chris. I just purchased a 2007 650 Burgman about a week ago. Come to find out that the seller pretty much lied about the shape it was in. Apparently, the engine needs work and I'm close to Savannah, Ga. If anyone knows of someone here who does work please let me know. Thanks

It's smoking pretty good thick and white. I was getting a tire fixed and the mechanic who worked there said he's pretty sure the top half of the motor needs repairing because he has a dirtbike that's doing the same thing.15-20mph not so bad but once you open it up a bit it gets thick to where you can't see behind you.

don't mind turning a wrench if i know what i'm doing and don't have much money to throw. was a mechanic(parts changer) in the army, but i know nothing about this scooter.
Most times these apply:
  • White smoke means antifreeze leaking at a head gasket.
  • Black smoke means too much fuel.
  • Blue smoke means oil is getting past the piston rings or valve guides.
It will involve removing most of the front fairing to get to the cylinder head. Then once you can get the cylinder head off, still a lot of work with dual overhead cams, you will need to check the head and top of the cylinders for FLATNESS.

If you were closer I'd ride over and spend a few hours helping. I love the Savanna GA area. I use to fly my Suzuki GS750N from Ft Gordon in Augusta to Savanna, took about 1 hours 20 minutes ;)

But we are 2,900 miles apart.

Thank you for the info and the possible help. I dropped it off at the shop today the guy says he'll check and see what issues it has. I couldn't even get it started today. The guy said if he has to rebuild it I'm out at least $1500. I believe the seller knew this even though he denies it. It just agitates me to think how good of a bike I could have got for $4500 if I purchased it from an honest person.
A few questions and suggestions, does it run or idle rough? low on power, is the coolant level low or high, do you see air bubbles in overflow bottle while running, is fluid dirty, does it overheat, is the engine oil dirty/cloudy. Did you or someone else :unsure:check/add engine oil incorrectly, did not over-service? Remove spark plugs and check for oil contamination, if your plugs are oil fouled, "No bueno", if your plugs are not fouled, do a compression test. The cylinder head cover/valve cover rubber gasket could be broken around dowel pins (item #2) allowing oil into exhaust flow thru secondary air passages.

i just bought it from a guy a few weeks ago he told me it had no issues but It’s a possibility that he knew it was already smoking. He told me only issue it had was throttle needed adjustment because it would die if you not putting a little pressure on it. It’s in the shop now so hopefully whatever it is it’s not too expensive to fix because if so I just lost 3grand

Could you tell us about the transaction ? Did you buy and pay for it sight unseen with no test ride ?

Well, reading thru the thread, seems like the OP purchased the scooter solely based on seller's word on condition 🤞, with little or no know knowledge about the vehicle type, operation or how to repair it 🤔, it would kinda hard to assess is condition based on those facts, but a bike that won't idle is a "Major Red Flag", IMO. Bike is in the shop now, is their call now.
I really hard to make any constructive, positive or helpful comments at this point, in other words, not easy to " Sugarcoat" this one, "Flame Suit On".

I was wondering if it was an Ebay Purchase or maybe bought from an outa state Craigslist ad and then using a 3rd party shipper ? I’ve never known a scammer to refund $500 of the purchase price of a scam.

Edit…
I just wish the OP had found the kind folks of BUSA before the purchase.

I bought it locally I saw the bike it started right up but I did not drive it though. It didn’t smoke the first time I drove it because I drove around my neighborhood but when I took it out on the road got up to 40-45 it smokes. I did take the word of the seller and he did say he had no knowledge of the issue but I have it so I have to get it fixed. I’m a disabled army vet (widower) with 3 girls and anyone who has girls know they’re expensive lol so hopefully the repairs aren’t too steep so I can afford it.

No seller posted it on Facebook marketplace I had been wanting a scooter like this since I discovered them. Maybe I was just too excited to finally get my hands on one and rushed into the purchase the loss is all mine. Hopefully I can get it repaired and ride it until the scooter gets excited to see me as I am when I see it.

Thank you, that explains a lot …. I understand your excitement and then the disappointment.

Do you know and trust your mechanic and does he have any B650 experience ? The B650 is an oddity to most m/c shops and needs specific care on a couple things.

The good thing is that you’ve found BUSA and we’ll help get you up and running.

Best of Luck and keep us posted.

No I don’t know the mechanic he was one of two shops close to me who was willing to work on it. I read reviews from other customers who has work done on their Burgman and said he’s dependable.
