AFX just released my next helmet which I had been waiting for.

I have been a happy AFX customer for years and I am really looking forward to getting my paws on the new AFX-55 7 in 1 helmet.
The concept is not new, it has been done by other manufacturers, I am just glad to see AFX offer their own version now.

My favorite helmet for the 650 right now is the AFX-50 which has proved to be a great all around helmet.

Got to wait a big longer for it to hit the shelves, but most places are taking pre-orders.
It comes in a variety of colors and can be had for $119-150.

The "baseball cap bill" might work well with a Burgman's stock windscreen -- the quietest helmet I ever found was a cheap Fulmer 3/4 with an extended "bill" that deflected the airflow tumbling off the top of the windscreen completely over the helmet. Alas, the helmet had other issues (didn't fit me all that well, and tended to slide/roll forward on my head) but that visor made a tremendous difference.

If you get one, let us know how it works out.

Ledude, I like the helmet versatility. I was wondering about the AFX shape.

My head is round. Do the AFX's fir a round head shape?

Thanks for ALL you have done for this site and fellowburgman riders.

Chin bar looks a little small to me, but I'd wear it (chin bar) while touring for a little added protection. I also have an AFX 50 now that I'd like, but would like to have the option to snap on a little more protection.

You might try the Bell Mag8 then.
It is exceptionally quiet.
Love mine and it's cheap.

I like this concept tho.

3lb 4 oz decently light to0 - same weight as the Bell.

Having an option chin bar is nice.

Just love the Mag8 - race car driver put me on to it.

But the Afx has more ot offer especially off road in Australia.

So ya'll are saying that the visor/bill does NOT act as a parachute????

Mag8 - well never recall finding it hot - open face sort of inherently cool and I wear a thin balaclava underneath to keep earphones in.
Liner is washable too

There is a Mag9 out as well
But the Mag8 is incredible value

I've never found the visor to parachute unless you stick your head over the front of the windscreen.

I ride with my convertible open a lot and it doesn't either.
Convertible is heavy :(

I also have the AFX-50 and was looking at the AFX-55 as well. Although I like my AFX-50, I find the shield too short. I don't see that as a problem on the new AFX-55.

My husband really liked it as well but be decided to go with the GMAX GM67. He decided on this helmet for a few of reasons. One it was available now, that it had the optional brake light and it was recommend by a motorcycle cop. It has a lot of air vents. It comes with a visor. a drop down sun visor and a shield although, you can't use them at the same time. You can also buy the removable chin bar, breath box and a brake light that works wireless with your brake on the bike/scooter for a little extra. He's used it for a few days already and so far he likes it.

No, it doesn't.
Airflow over the top of the windscreen is sloping downward by the time it hits my helmet. (Note: Stock windscreen on a non-Exec '05; I'm 5'5" tall with a 29" inseam. Riders with longer torsos -- compare height minus inseam -- may encounter "parachute" problems as their helmet will be further up into the airstream than mine.)

I've heard of reliability problems (inside sunshade mechanism) with those, but the source might have been trying to sell me a more expensive helmet... The basic idea looks good.

I wear a XXL AFX and I have a somewhat rounded head, they fit me very well. Mind you I always wear a skull cap of varying thickness depending on the season and temperatures. I could get away with an XL but prefer the more comfy fit of the XXL.

I would suggest going to a store that may stock AFX helmets and trying a couple on to get a better sense on what size may work best for you.

All the best....

Don't think you will an issue with the chin bar, as it sits past the face shield which on my FX-50 sits nicely away from my chin.

I would recommend the AFX-50 over the Bell Mag8, much better all around helmet and far more comfortable and very quiet with good ventilation.
you can pick them up pretty reasonably right now on clearance, I was going to buy a second one until I saw the AFX-55 pics.

There is no sunshade on the Mag8 - you do need to keep an eye on the visor tension otherwise it can slip down with turbulence. Coin is all to tighten and it's easy on and off for cleaning.

The Mag9 has a sunshade.

Not so sure about comfort or quiet over the Mag8 as I find both excellent. I do like the ability to add the chin bar especially for off road in Aus. I like any helmet with a visor since my early Bells with this set up.

LeDude if you owned both how was the size of the Bell against the AFX??

Thinking of this glaring beast. Tired of white and it matches my Icon rain jacket.

Pulled the trigger on the 2XL Yellow. Tired of the weight of the current convertible and this looks like a nice step up from the Bell.

arrived today at long last.
Excellent fit for me.
FIddly to get the ratchet chin strap adjusted but you do it once then it's "best ever".

Helmet is quiet up to 60 mph- did not slab it.
The Motocross visor has a rumble like soft thunder if you tip your head the wrong way.
Might be a problem on the slab tho it's very low frequency. Have not yet tried it in the sun.

Field of view is outstanding - you simply cannot see the chin bar unless you look down. It's out of peripheral vision.

Visor action is smooth tho the tab to move it is a bit small for gloved hands.

Action on the sunshade is smooth but not yet used to where the tab on it is so fumbly.

Finish and inside is very comfy and smooth, by far the best "fit out of the box" for me but I worry a tad about getting it on with earphones in.

Will cross that bridge.

WIll try the shorter visor tomorrow and more fooling.

Sure was visible tonight with the HI-Viz helmet and the Icon jacket. Was dusk and raining on and off so useful.

if they think I'm a cop.....good :D

Ledude,

Did you ever get the new AFX? I wear a size 2 xl in HJC (own 2 helmets) so will 2 xl in afx be the same fit? I know you used to own a hjc as well.

I like the AFX 50 and AFX 55. Leaning towards the 55 right now.
