After doing some researching, it seems as others also have stated their opinion that our Burgman seats aren't the greatest for being comfortable. I have a couple of options, and wanted to hear from people that have changed or modified their backrest.

One of the first that I found was this option, where the backrest looks completely replaced. I'm assuming this is the Isuzu Trooper backrest that I came across some people performing.

Another option, uses the existing backrest, but adds an extension to it, to make it higher:

This option from Utopia adds to the existing backrest, but is more than what I wanted to pay at $199:

Are there any other affordable options that I may be missing, or haven't come across as of yet? I'd like to be able to lean back and relax against something, and have it also be safe for me as well.

I'm 6'1" tall, at 185lbs, if this helps at all

Thanks!

Personally I wouldn't have any thing but the Utopia , the price IMO is well worth it . Every Burgman rider who sat on one of my Burgmans have said the same thing , "I gotta get one of these" .

Yes, but doesn't the Utopia have to be installed only with the butt bumper set all the way back? That wouldn't work for some of us shorter riders if that is so. I have mine about halfway from the front to rear.
Here's my favorite: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Suzuki-Burgman-650-Drivers-Driver-Backrest-back-rest-seat-Factory-Black-/252397152250?hash=item3ac40ae7fa:g:7uMAAOSwq7JTzVF9&vxp=mtr

It is installed all the way back , which works for me . But a shorter rider probably not .

I've enjoyed my 3 brothers backrest extender immensely, on both the 400 & 650. However, they reportedly have horrible return policies. Buy at your own risk.

I installed a backrest from Burgmanbrothers.com about 1000 Km ago. Sean mailed it from Windsor, Ont., and I got it quickly. It only took a few minutes to install. What can I say - it lets me have a couple more inches for my long legs and it sits higher up on my back, where it needs to be! I recommend it highly! 487 Km the first day and I was still ready to keep riding - it doesn't get better than that!

Thanks Guys!

I just installed a 3 Brothers Backrest on my 2016 650 and LOVE IT! I screwed up the first one they sent (the instructions are not as precise as the engineering) and sent them an email to which they readily responded and sent me a new part N/C no questions asked. That's customer service in my book. The only thing I will add is some kind of cover as it will get a bit sweaty back there in hot weather.

I have been debating the seat covers. Or just having them do a whole seat. I just don't want to be down :)

HI Jason
The Utopia may be more money, but it's worth every penny. I have had one for 3 years. It's very confortable and offers very solid support. I wouldn't ride with out now.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys!

I just purchased and installed the http://www.3brothersperformance.com/ unit and absolutely love it! Wow, what a difference it makes to overall comfort!

For the record, I am about 165 lbs. and 5' 9". I had to remove the bottom half of the armor in my riding jacket because it just wouldn't sit flat and comfortably against the backrest, but now I'm comfy on even a long ride. I usually wear an abdomen belt to provide additional back support and reduce pain on long rides, but I don't think I'm even going to need that anymore.

I read some warnings that the two set screws in the butt bumper could be stripped and, sure enough, one of them was. It spun in its hole and wouldn't come out, so I had to dremel the head off to get it out of there. When I reinstalled the assembly I used the remaining set screw in the other side, although it isn't really necessary to use it at all. In fact, the instructions advise against it if the user wants to be able to remove it quickly.

If there's a downside to this unit, it's only that it seriously intrudes on pillion room. In the relatively rare cases when my better half wants to go for a spin, I can just remove the entire unit in a moment, and then I can lean back against her! :wink

I installed the bestbackrests product on my 2018 Burgman 650. It is a great product that the manufacturer, a Burgman owner himself, created. You completely remove the factory buttrest and replace it with this one. It looks great, and is reasonably priced to me at $130. To me, it is way more comfortable completely getting rid of the buttrest.

This back rest was made back in 2008 or so and sold on here by a retired member BearCat. Back thru 2016 or so he was selling them for $65 including shipping. I have 2 of them.
