I posted this on someone else's related thread with no response so, I thought I would start a new thread specific to my question.

I am wondering what affect 18 or 19 gm DP weights would have on steep grades at altitude. I realize there would be more throttle to play with than with the OEM weights but, can the engine do anything with it? I live near the mountains and many trips require traversing mountain passes. There are several with grades of around 7% above 10,000 feet. My stock K9 400 keeps pace most of the time but, under these circumstances the best I can sometimes do at full throttle is about 5 mph below the speed limit. I'd like to hear from those with some real-world experience with this.
