Well - I was proven wrong with my assumption of voting demographics... and I really have no assumption about the ICOBO when it comes to this.

This morning I was reading where a couple just won some huge amount in a lottery somewhere - something like a 128 million lump some payment after taxes.

I do not play the lottery. I feel as though it is targeted toward the humans who can least afford to partake. Hey - if you play the lotto with bux to spare - great! But - I dunno - personally - I think it's sort of a scam.

I'm guessing from the number of views vs number of responses there are a lot of closet lottery players out there. I admit it!! I play!! All the time!! I'm one of them suckers!! But you know, it's the thrill of the chase and that one moment when I find out I've won is what it is all about. The freedom money brings is great but it still comes down to that one moment.

I worked in the gaming industry (casinos) for over a decade.
Here's MY 'take' on gambling (my "Top-10" as it were) in no specific order:

1) You can't win if you don't play.
2) You can't lose if you don't play.
3) They don't keep building more/bigger casinos by giving away money.
4) It takes all kinds and you find all kinds in a casino.
6) Gaming is entertainment (same as dining/drinking/dancing/etc.).
7) Every game in a casino favors the house one way or another.
8) Slot machines are not 'rigged'.
9) If losing your money will upset you, give to a homeless person outside (at least SOMEONE will end up happy).
10) Anyone who says they have won more than they lost is either:
a. Lying.
b. Is not taking their entire gaming investment into consideration.
c. Can not count.
d. Just started gambling and got lucky.
e. Such a small minority they SHOULD be playing the lottery!

I play...

I play occasionally...maybe a 1/2 dozen times a year. Sounds weird but usually when I go to 7-Eleven and I get back an even amount of change - say $2. I just give it back and take a ticket. So far in the past 12 months I'm into the state for about $20 or so after my free tickets and several meager winnings.

As far as a scam goes...there is no scam. The odds are always in the houses favor so if you go in knowing that you aren't in for a shock.

My 2 cents.
