Live in Burke, VA, which is about 15 miles S/W of Washington, DC.

Blue AN400K3 purchased 7/12/2003 at Coleman Powersports in Woodbridge, VA for $5334 OTD, including tax. They also wanted to sell me their (not Suzuki's) extended warranty/maintenance plan for $2500. I declined.

Just surpassed the 1800-mile mark, and after a very unsatisfactory 600-mile service from the dealership, I did the 1800-mile service myself.[/url]

$2500 for service contract? Isn't that $500?
The $2500 is probally right. My dealer wanted $2900 for a 4yr ext warr (1 original plus 3 more). And a 4 yr / 20k mile service plan. My boss paid $2500 for this plan on his road star. I paid $1100 which was dealer cost.

Contracts

I haven't read of any, but one testimonial, harking the benefits of these contracts.

When I purchased my GSX1100GN from Golden Gate Cycles in 1992, they sat me down in front of the sales manager who asked if I wanted it added, but I said that I decline.
She started yelling at me and saying "you'll be sorry". I still declined it.

I never had a problem with the GS except high labor costs associated with valve shim adjustements (not covered under warranty or contract) and $300 sets of cool bike tires.

The Burgman's Suzuki extended coverage was quoted to me at $800 (of which I declined) but they said I could come back and get it before the 1 year warranty gives out (yeah right).
The guy in the financing office booth, who offered coverage got all ticked because he printed out the sales order in advance, including coverage and he had to push print again and tear up the docs and start over (poor baby).
Yes, it is $2500. What a bargain, eh? I might have considered it at $1200, but I would have been a fool to take it even for $500. My dealership failed to complete all the required checks at the 600-mile service. Barring som "emergency," I'm never taking my Burgman to that dealer for servicing again.

On the other hand, I had no problem with the Sales department. The price negotiation was very easy, and they quickly took over $1000 off their asking price when I showed them the lowest-priced new Burgman I could find on cycletrader.com.

I saw a blue 650 on I-395 the other day, heading north towards D.C. First Burgman I've seen in person, other than mine.

Hey Daveman!!! Take a stroll into Champion Motorsports in Herndon. Decent shop, and I've been real happy with them. I'll let ya know how they do on the first service after I get thru it.

The sales guy I went through was real low-pressure, and was helpful in putting me into the right bike for my experience (none!). Hope to see you around sometime. I've got a blue 400. :)
I just might try that, Sandy. I used to live up in Herndon until I bought my condo in Burke 3 years ago.
Burke Rider

Daveman,

I'm about to make the jump to the Burgman myself. I've been taking the VRE in from the Rolling Road stop in Burke, but my total door to door commute has been over 75 minutes. Hoping to cut some time off of my commute by taking HOV. Do you ride into DC on your bike? How do you like the ride?

Re: Burke Rider

Andy,

I'm currently taking the VRE from the Burke Centre station to L'Enfant, where I transfer to the blue/orange Metro line to Farragut West. Takes me about the same amount of time as you. My scooter was involved in an accident, and has been in the shop for about 2 months now. They will order parts and begin work next week, hopefully. The driver who caused the accident was uninsured and is nowhere to be found now, of course.

I love riding the scooter into work! Best route for me is Old Keene Mill Road into Springfield, where you can enter 395 directly onto the HOV lane. Takes me about 40 minutes door-to-door, roughly half the time it takes when using VRE/Metro.

Thanks for the reply...I saw from one of your posts that you work in the White House. I'm an Assistant Chief of Communications for the Associated Press and am in the White House Press room at least once a month...small world!

Andy
Hey daveman since you work in the White house , do you think the President can light a fire under the butts of those people working on your bike? I can't believe you have gone this long and still no progress on your machine. Just get George W to give them a call. I bet your bike will be ready in 3 days if he does
daveman,

The President says that your Burgman will stay in the shop
until the job is done!
Did you get an invitation to the White House Christmas decoration tour? I just got back from taking my kids there tonight, and it was quite lavish/beautiful. I might post some pictures tomorrow. Don't know if I can upload pics directly to this forum, though.

Well, I did get a check from Progressive today, for the amount of the repair minus a $200 deductible (funny, none of my previous insurance policies had a UIM deductible). The shop has been authorized to begin ordering parts. Hopefully I'll get my Burgman back in time for the start of winter.

Nope...I don't get over to the White House enough to get invited. Several of my co-workers got the invites though. I'm not a journalist - I work on the technology side of the house (Network Administration).

Good luck w/ the repairs! Is Champions doing the work for you?
Ah cool, I'm a techie, too. I'm an Oracle DBA. And I'm a contractor, not a government employee. Still wear a coat and tie to work, though. :(

Fast Lane in Chantilly is doing the work. I'm not familiar with Champions.

New Burgman

Dave,

Have you gotten your Burgman back yet? I picked up my new 2003 AN400 yesterday at Champions Motorsports in Herndon. I love the ride, but will take a few weeks getting used to it before I ride it in to work. Maybe I'll see you cruising around Burke!

Andy
Cool, Andy! It's a nice ride. I'm sure the weather will help insure you break it in gently.

My Burgman is still at Fast Lane Cycles in Chantilly. I should have it back by New Year's Day, but I'm not holding my breath.
Drove in this morning

Drove the bike into work for the first time this morning. Traffic was really light and HOV was wide open! It took me 27 minutes from my house to where I parked the bike (I & 20th)! I left my house 20 minutes later than usual and made it to work before the train would have even arrived at L'Enfant!

Hope you get your bike back soon! It's been fairly mild so far this year.
