Last fall I changed the oil with Mobil1 Synthetic knowing that it wouldn't be changed till Spring, if necessary. I put 3500 miles on it throughout the winter. 90 pct of them local and around town. Many times the engine never reached operating temperature before shutting down. It has been stated here, more than once, that longer rides get the oil to go through the filter instead of bypassing it. Here is the Pudding-I changed the oil today and the oil that came out was three shades lighter than black. Like dark coffee. I was aware of the warning but I did not think that it would be so noticeable. I filled up with Shell Rotella T6 Synthetic but did not change the filter out. I'll do it next time. I don't think that it actually filtered much oil and so is probably fine, So, just a heads-up. If your short tripping often enough then you'll probably need to change the oil more often. Funny how that works. :D

Yup, you have to get it up to normal operating temp, for several reasons. Short trips are :( on any machine.
