After unscrewing the dipstick and wiping dry, are you supposed to screw it back in and out to check the level, or just insert it without screwing it back in?

This was harder to describe than I thought it would be.

Thanks.

I believe you just put it in without screwing it in. What I've been told by a few mechanics is that even though the manual says to have it on the center stand, having it level on both tires is best to check it. Something about how that the way the oil is whn riding.

GK13 is correct. You just insert it without screwing it in.

If you check it with both wheels on the ground it will read slightly lower than if you check it with it on the centerstand. Checking it with both wheels on the ground is the better way, however it is also a little more difficult to do. What I did was check it both ways and figure out what the difference is. Then after that I could check it on the centerstand and correct for the difference.
