First large tire I have changed (in 58 years).
The front tire...
I made a home made bead breaker. Used 24 inch tire irons from HF. Wish I had a third one!
And a HF balancer.

The whole thing wasn't too bad. Ended up with some scratches on the rim. Despite using short, slitted lengths of 1/2 inch PVC pipe as rim protectors.

When I balanced it, I ended up with four 1/4 oz. weights, I put them between the spokes, instead of on the flat part of the rim. Seems to work OK. And the weights are centralized. Can't see any reason that wouldn't work.

Saved $$$$ and stayed away from a dealer. Give it a try if you are handy. :)

Nice, and looks safe. Were the brake discs any problem while dismounting and remounting the tire to the rim?

/\ No, I just treated the brake discs as if they were made of glass :D -avoided touching them.

I just installed a set of tires on my 400 the same way I have done it for the last 20+ years. I break the bead with a big C-clamp and a scrap of wood (like a piece of oak flooring) and remove the tire with an old tire tool and a small flat crow bar along with a big hammer.

I dropped my Burger off at the stealership and picked it up a few hours later with a brandie new front tire attached to it. I'd rather have it done on a work day and enjoy it on an off day. They also installed the Anchor 90 deg metal valves for me. Osborn, I don't think you are cheap or lazy. If I didn't think I would cause more damage than what the dealer wanted for the job and if I had half the energy you have, I would have given it a shot myself. Good for you.
