'Round about 2 weeks ago I was enjoying a casual ride down to Tombstone, AZ from my home in Tucson when I had a chance meeting with a resident from that fair city. I was at an intersection of two highways waiting my turn at the stop sign for a break in traffic when a minister driving Chevy Silverado truck pulled up behind me. Now it seems that this particular gentleman found his chicken McNuggets to more deserving of his attention than little ol' me because after coming to a complete stop behind me he decided to step on the gas and unseat me from my beloved Burgy!!
Now I've got to tell you that the local law enforcement from Tombstone was on their toes that day. The incident happend just seconds before the Undersherriff for Tombstone came around the bend. He was parked, lights flashing & out of his car just about the time I was getting to my feet (yes, I fall down...go boom) . Within seconds he had taken in the scene with one question..."Did what looks like just happened actually just happen?"
A couple of minutes later the local Animal Control truck shows up and it's inhabitant jumped out with a fire extinguisher. He had heard on his radio that a motorcycle was down & stopped by to prevent problems from fuel leakage...(I had just filled my tank - Scoot on it's side but not a drop fell out!). Then, since traffic accidents are not his jurisdiction, the Undersherriff called the local boys...minutes later a Marshall from Tombstone showed up to take over...he called the Fire Department who then sent a Paramedic Unit to check me out. When the Paramedics saw that I was in one piece they got on the radio & called off the Life Flight chopper. After the Paramedics left the Arizona Highway Patrol showed up to finish the report...evidently I was just outside the city limit & it's their baileywick. By the way, this entire process took only about 20 minutes. This spectacle of interdepartmental co-operation took place not 50 yards from a Border Patrol checkpoint on that particular highway and there was nary a Border Patrol officer in sight!
Now, Iwant you to keep in mind that this accident happened when I was at a dead stop & the truck that rear-ended me couldn't have been traveling more than about 2 MPH! I was able to ride back to Tucson without any trouble & went directly (did NOT pass go) to my local dealer for a repair estimate...results? Broken taillight & various minor scuffs and scratches, broken right brake lever...all totalling just over $3,300.00 in repair costs!
This concluded my afternoon adventure....just goes to show you that those chicken McNuggets can get awfully expensive!
Keep an eye on your six....& be careful out there.
