I had a backpack strapped under the seat and noticed that when I went to start the bike nothing happened. I played around with the seat thinking maybe the backpack strap was prohibiting something and played with the side stand as well. Then the bike starts right up.
The battery is fine, it's new. The bike has always started. What might cause this?

If the seat was the issue, the battery would be dead as you would have left the light on.

Did you just answer your own question? The side stand?
Yup.

There is nothing in the trunk that would interfere with the bike starting. If you left the light on, it would at least turn over. It would not start two minutes later. The battery and starter relay are under the seat, but they are far forward and well insulated.

Check your sidestand. A loose spring or sticky sidestand switch is likely the problem.
