I agree with all of this. relax and have a bit of faith.I don't know what tires you have, but I do know that some react to the pavement much more than others.
With that said, all I can say is relax and don't try and keep it perfect - guide the bike where you want it, don't force it there. (sorry, but after riding many years I found I actually gritted my teeth for some reason when I started riding the Burgman - I needed to loosen up quite a bit).

Tar snakes are a whole different beast for me,though. I do try to ovoid them. In the summer when they heat up, I find the bike gets very twitchy.
