I'm thinking of using an inexpensive tarp rather than a bike cover. Any reasons why I shouldn't?

Scratches. On the bodywork and especially on the windscreen.

A good bike cover will have a soft lining where it slides over the windscreen. The lighter (usually nylon) material that goes over the rest of the body is less prone to creat scratches than the heavier canvas or plastic tarp materials. A good bike cover will have a heat resistant bottom border that will not melt on a warm exhaust pipe. Lastly, since it is preformed to fit a motorcycle or scooter it is easier to put on and tie down.

You really do get a lot for the additional $40 or so that you'll spend on a good bike cover.

Hi Bob,

We've got Guardian Dowco covers (medium) with the chamois insert for over the windshield. We liked the first one so much that that's what we bought for the second 400.

Cost: about $50-60. You could try online. The medium more than fits ours fine. And there's a cinch-down line and an opening for a lock.

Cheers,

Bryna
