The base engines are all the same but there are some minor differences. The final drive gear that connects to the CVT is different on the 03/04 models from later models so you have to use the early model primary adapter. That is a weaker part than the later model setup. If you don't plan to peripherals from your 09, the throttle bodies on the 03-06 models are different. In 07 they went to idle controlled by the ECM instead of the manual idle adjustment on the earlier. Not sure if that will give you a problem hooking up to your 09 ECM. Might be best to stick to 07-12 engines. The 13-14 engines might also work but they have a different cylinder head and I'm not sure if that requires different ECM mapping for the injectors.
