I've been toying with the idea of doing Scootin The Ozarks for years but work always precluded it. This year I may be able to swing it. I've been looking at routes up to Eureka Springs and there are several possibilities.

Anyone from the DFW/North Texas area making the trip? If so, what route are you taking up?

For all the years that I lived in the Waco area & went to the scooter
rallies in Eureka Springs, I usually took Hiway 75 N out of Dallas...
it becomes Hiway 69 in OK...up to I-40, then E to Ft Smith, Ark,
from there go N on I-49 (old maps show it as I-540) to Hiway 62 at
Bentonville/Rogers...follow Hiway 62 E to Eureka Springs...the
STO rally motel is on 62 at the Hiway 23 intersection....
a Y intersection...motel on your right...S side of the road.
Local 'revenue-generators' in the McAlester area, & State boys
the whole length of the freeway from Ft. Smith to Bentonville...
keep your guard-dog awake. With the rolling hills, it's very easy
to track you from a mile away. ( I never met one myself)

I'm not planning to go but when I have went up there for rallies in prior years I've taken a different route from what Duster took. I would go I-30 to Greenville then take 224 and 24 on up to Paris. From there 271 through Hugo, Antlers and Talihina on up to Poteau. I find 271 a much more relaxed road than 69 and I-40. From Poteau 112 on up to Fort Smith. If I'm in a hurry from there then I-49 north but usually I-40 east about 30 miles to Arkansas 23 (also known as the pig trail). It is a great motorcycle road and you can follow it all the way north to Eureka Springs.

One year, I had a little extra time, so I took Old Hiway 71
from Texarkana to Mena, spent a day riding the Talimena Trail,
& the next day continued N on Hiway 71 to Ft. Smith,
staying on Old 71 all the way to Rogers...just so I
can say that I did it...& to see what traveling in that
area was like before the freeway made traveling easy.
Then picked up Hiway 62 at Rogers, stopped at Pea Ridge
Nat. Mil. Park just E of Rogers, before continuing
on to Eureka Springs.

With some planning, I'd be interested... I'm west of you a bit.

Rev...buddy-up with Silver Dollar & go to Eureka Springs.
When it's all over, you'll know why you are glad you went.
You'll also know that there is no way that you can
do-it-all or see-it-all in a single visit.

I really want to go this year but don't think the boss will let me off.

Sometimes working for a living really sucks. I thought I was going to have a light September workload but things changed this week and my boss doesn't want me to take off.

Oh well, I'm out. Not going this year. I may just have to plan a early October ride up through SE Oklahoma.

My vacation time ran out. Used the last of it on seeing family & friends on O'ahu, so it doesn't hurt so much. Still I was eager to get to the STO Rally since I have never in my life seen more than 2 maxi scoots share the same space and now that we live in DFW we are closer than ever before. Oh well, there is always next year. Sometimes I wish we had as much vacation time as they do in Europe. :crying

For those that have them.. Some need them because they know they constantly are really sick. Plus STO festivities start mid week from what I've heard. So a weekend only helps with returning home.
