I was up in Scotland until yesterday when my reg/rectifier also went on holiday.
Flat battery ensued. Shortly followed by recovery van etc.
A little research shows this to be a bit of an issue with some '09 Burgervans.

Questions.

Is it worth refitting a standard crappy part?

Has anyone made a better solution (even if more pricey)?

Were any AN650 recalled about this when the 400s went with the same issue?

Pi55ed off it cost me the back end of a lovely holiday. Driving back hundreds of miles in the dark is no fun after doing 200 in daylight on the bike already.
I love coffee.

Suplementary question.

Are there any differences in the regulators, would say an '08 fit an '09??

The regulator part number is the same for 2003-2010, 32800-10G20. 2011 gives an updated part number of 32800-10G30. Suzuki uses this same regulator on a number of bikes. The problem in 09 seems to be that they just got a bad batch. The regulator on my 07 went 90,000+ miles before it gave up the ghost. I just replaced it with another OEM one.

I understand there is a MOSFET type regulator on the market that is superior. I could search this forum or you could.;)

Good stuff chaps. Many thanks.
Bike is being recovered to me today. I'll update as we go along.
It seems that my extended warranty covers this failure so it will no doubt be a standard OEM part used.
For some reason I assumed they'd not cover battery/ charge circuit issues. So, even better if I end up not paying too!!!
