There has long been a fringe group of antique Italian scooter enthusiasts in the Seattle area but scooters remained a curiosity until just recently.

Now for something new & different, check out this link: http://www.soundrider.com/nwse/04PokerRun.htm

I've been riding motorcycles and scooters here in the Northwest since the mid-80s and I've never seen anything like this. Truth be told my motorcycle riding friends could never understand the scooter thing. I thought they were eminently suited to the vagaries of our predominant local weather phenomenon, "The Seattle Rain Festival - January 1st to December 31st".

Don't know if scooters are bustin' out all over in other parts of the U.S. but I hope to see for myself during a run around the country this summer.

Regards,

Dan

Dan,

Gotta watch out for those fringe groups. Mothers, get your children indoors! Those crazy scooterists are coming.

That's a pretty cool poker run. At $10 entry fee, and $800 in cash prizes, it sounds like they were anticipating a turnout of more than eighty riders...
I'd love to participate in something like that, if someone would sponsor a similar event within a couple hundred miles of where I live. Heck, I'd even put up with the 2-stroke smoke from those old Lambrettas and Vespas.

Paul,

Tom Mehren at http://www.soundrider.com is the driving force behind this and other 2-wheel activities here in the NW. I'm sure he'd be happy to lend his expertise/experience to others who might want to establish similar events in their areas.

Regards,

Dan
