Why?
They might expand or deflect the pocket of still air behind the mirror/turn signal assembly up to fully include the rider's hands. I've considered something of the sort myself, but never bothered to even mock up a prototype out of cardboard and masking tape since I can't imagine it makes a significant difference. I would expect something that actually does make a difference would have to be a bit larger than what they're selling.

If someone's actually shelled out the money for a set, it'd be nice to hear whether it actually does make a difference, and if so, how much.

Maybe. That's why I like my Givi screen.

Those racks have been around for a while. Available in the US with free shipping. http://www.twistedthrottle.com/sideracks-for-givi-monokey-sidecases-suzuki-an650-burgman-an650-burgman-executive-02

They are made in Germany with instructions in German only. They are also available for the 2007 400 onwards.

Make sure you spray an anti rust product on the inside of the tubing. If you can't get the anti rust product down to some of the lower bends drill a small hole to facilitate the dispenser. I have been contacted by a good number of Silverwing riders that have fitted these Fehling racks only to find rust appearing, destroying the chrome plaiting.

Their website's inventory count is often bogus.
If anyone's interested in side racks, make sure to call Twisted to verify that the qty they show on their website is indeed existing. When I called them a couple weeks ago, I was told the 400's Fehling rack is on a pre-order basis only, and it will take 6-8 weeks for them to receive after placing the order. No thank you.

Re: hand deflectors... I adapted a wing spoiler fixed on top of the rv mirrors, and my impression of it is that it deflects air over the hands 50% of the time. There's just not enough of an envelop to block off wind that's coming at a side angle. The Givi w/s I have on my 400 has complete wind coverage over my hands all the time, regardless of side wind approach.
