2023 Burgman handling and suspension

So, I have had my Burgman for about a month now. I've put over 400 miles on it so far, and I am very happy with the handling of this bike. I have had 2 instances of sudden stops (typical in Florida, the cars drive with the same attitude as cyclist do). In both cases I never felt like a crash was eminent because of the braking and suspension. The ABS kicked in one time, and in both cases, the suspension never let go and I never had a fork dive. It dipped, but my last 2 scooters had horrible reactions to emergency stops, including back tire locking up and a severe fork dip. It's a nice feeling knowing the bike will handle well when I need it to the most.

On the bike rally I went on two weekends ago, there was a 20-mile stretch where we were riding in rain. It wasn't a downpour, but it was consistent, and the roads were very wet. Again, the Burgman 400 handled like a dream on the wet roads. I could feel it when I hit a water patch, but that was it. The only bikes I had that handled this well in the rain was my 1982 Kawasaki 650 CSR, and my 1978 Honda Goldwing.

The best part of the Burgman handling is the cornering. This bike leans like a dream. I cannot believe how far you can lean this bike. On quite a few corners, I lean well into the turn and the bike is as stable as it is when riding upright. I've never had a bike this size lean over as far as my Burgy does and still feels stable. If I lean a little more than comfortable, a little bit of throttle brings it right up. However, I always check my tire pressure before heading out.

As I continue to ride this bike, I am not finding any problems or things I am unhappy with, and I continue to get happier and happier with the performance of this bike. Yesterday I drove the Burgy to an almost empty gas tank. I got 220 miles out of it and averaged 71 MPG. Not bad for this bike, carrying a 230 lb. rider with a trunk mounted on it.

As @Bluestrom said, the 650 carries its centre stand very low and is generally bulkier.
The 400 tucks it away more neatly and out of the way.

You can touch the bodywork to the ground on the 2018+ 400 but you have to be trying very hard.

You have posted this in the 2018+ area, did you mean to do that? It looks like you have a pre 2018.
Oh, I see it now. Yea, I fat-fingered in my profile. It is a 2023. I need to change my profile.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Thanks for pointing this out. I didn't realize I fat-fingered the year in my profile. I found it and changed it. I do have the 2023 Burgman 400. I chose the Grey with blue accent color scheme :sneaky:

Not much room left. And a special challenge to hang off when there's no gas tank in the middle.

That pic would make a nice computer home screen for the rider.

I think I'd want some spray on tack for the seat and my butt.

Back when worked part time as a Rodie setting up stages for rock events we would take cans of cheap Cola and shake them and pop the top to spray the stage. When dried it was very tackful.

Lights, mirrors (and exhaust) changed in the 2017 update to the sportier body shape and were kept on in 2022 update.
