New 650z!!

The pics look like they were photographed from a printed brochure so they look a bit distorted.
I haven't Googled the translation yet.
Suzuki is scheduled to do a press release tomorrow at Germany's Intermot, very interested to see what they've done mechanically.

Re: New 650z!!

Thanks for posting your findings. I don't know what to think about it, at first glance it doesn't do anything for me. Looking forward to the write up though.

nice post... snapped this pic form the video...
Lots of tupperware refinements... not sure if anything has changed underneath....
would be interesting to see the dash area
seems to have a color matched main glove box
the small glove box seem to be in a different location.
same wheels but in black
black calipers instead of silver
same exhaust with a different cover and end
the rear brake lights seem different

Re: New 650z!!

Cosmetically speaking (since we don't have the tech details yet), I have the following comments:

(1) Looks like they've tried to bring the 650 more inline with the 400's looks -- which is FINE with me. The 650 always had the not-so-subtle appearance that it had been kicked in the face, and it looks like they've made the headlamps more aerodynamic and increased the rake on the front fork ever so slightly. Looks MUCH better now.

(2) Analog dash -- Absolutely LOVE it!!! I always thought my K7 400 had a sexy dash, with those orange gauges. I wasn't looking forward to the "American car of the Eighties" look with the big retro LCD speedometer. Gauges are MUCH easier to note changes in using your peripheral vision.

Now, Suzuki, just make it bulletproof, and I'm ready to sign! Good job.

Re: New 650z!!

Here's another video, evidently intended to touch your emotional side.

I think, rather, it should be entitled, "Why the Suzuki Burgman is stolen and damaged so often." :D

(Actually, that last little snippet before they plaster the screen with the Burgman logo at the end did, in fact, reach out and touch my soul.)

seems to have a color matched main glove box
the small glove box seem to be in a different location further up like on the 400
same wheels but in black
Bridgestone tires
black calipers instead of silver
same exhaust with a different cover and a different end cap
the rear brake lights are totally redesigned
new brake lock lever location, left side of seat
analog dash
passenger back rest has its own mounting plate now that slides in place
new lights embedded into the front end tupperware
driving lights seem very similar... wish they were LEDs instead.
Engine seems to be the same down to the frame
same suspension at first glance

That's because it is. Suzuki is bowing down to the demands of the Far East market, which needs a better high-occupancy urban commuter.

That's NINE people, folks. (But only one bucket seat.)

hmmm. well, im a bit disappointed. but maybe it will grow on me. just seems really stretched. no classic styling. they took a nice step thru motorcycle and turned it into a long awkward scooter.
+1.

I do love the dash though.

I hate the dash.

200 km/h speedometer on a scooter that is mainly used in the city and struggles above 130km/h?
They should have used 3/4 of the scale from 0 to 100 for readability.

In combination with the speedo healer, the digital speedo is awesome. If it says 54 then I'm going 54 and will not get a fine for speeding in a 50 zone. With ridiculous speed limits one needs to exceed them as much as possible to get anywhere.

The British riders which are plagued with one Gatso per mile probably appreciate a speedometer with a decent resolution in the range where it counts.

Who needs a huge rev counter on an automatic? We could do with 5 bars on an LCD screen.

To each his own, I love the tach on my 400 and feel it is very useful, it lets me know how hard the engine is working and when parts/components are starting to wearing out.

I'm not feeling it on the 2013. While a more generous rake to the front fork is rather sporty looking...it seems as if the tupperware is just broken up too much...no real flow of the lines. The nose of the seat is a bit more rounded off...perhaps offering less seating area. Shorter side hand grips for the passenger too.

Meh....maybe I just need some more coffee!

late,
Coz

will be interesting to see if the seat design has actually improved or is it the same old
uncomfortable 650 numb your ass seat.
