Up for sale is my now sitting 2007 Burgman 400. I am selling for only $1250 as a Mechanics Special and/or Parts Bike. Obviously being sold as-is. I will do my best listing everything that I know is wrong both mechanical and body wise. I can not deliver as I have already removed tags and insurance.

I do not wish to sell any parts off this bike individually, as i do not have space/room to tear it apart and be left with a partial bike. If I did have room, would just part it out, but since I can't, I wont.

It does run and drive, as I rode it every single day up until about 2 weeks ago when I picked up the new to me 650. Has about 55k miles on it.

It does have a custom speedometer inlay (guess that's what you can call it) that replaced the stock that TechArtGuy made for me many years ago. Gauges are a creamy white, and glow orange. Speedometer has been adjusted to account for the 10% optimization. This was done by actually adjusting the speedometer backing itself and correcting the marks, not by any type speedohealer type device.

Also included is a bad boy air horn installed underneath the dash plastics, and a 100w motorcycle amp (must supply speakers/audio device, as those were removed) that is screwed onto the battery cover in dash, and driving lights installed onto forks (Wal-Mart brand, so technically will not pass VA Inspection, I usually just removed, got inspected, and reinstalled). They are currently at this point disconnected (one wire), and are beginning to corrode/rust. Still work though. Could just remove entirely, I get new ones and use existing mounts I made for them.

Replaced battery about 2 months ago, Wal-Mart brand. Last Wal-Mart one I had lasted me about 2 years (everyday riding)

Rear brake rotor was replaced last year (i think, maybe year and half) due to pads being worn down to far and grooving them)

Will also include factory service manual that was ripped off its spine and put into a 3-ring binder.

Now for the bad, and the reason for such cheap price and mechanics special aspect of it

Engine:

  • STPS Motor is toast beyond repair (I made sure of that by mistake), it will need to be replaced, can pick up a used throttle body off Ebay for under $100 and swap hole thing, or just the motor, your choice. Due to this, the FI light is constantly on. I have rigged motor to leave the secondary butterflies in the open position so it will still run and drive. Think it does slightly impede performance, but not by much. Been driving it that way for 2 years.
  • Exhaust port on Cylinder Head is out of round, and one bolt hole is stripped out. Not sure how this happened, possibly loose exhaust bolt over time deformed the aluminum cylinder head. Possible fixes include new head, but might get away with heli-coil the threads, and somehow reforming the port to more round so exhaust header and fit in better. Due to this, there is nearly a constant exhaust leak at that point. I tried replacing gasket, and it lasted about a week before it started leaking again.
  • Sometimes has issues cranking over. Original starter was replaced earlier this year as the brushes were completely worn down and shot. Was replaced with a used one from a bike with around 25k miles on it. Sometimes (maybe once a week or 2). It doesn't want to crank over. If I rock the bike harshly, it will crank over and start. Didn't look to far into this issue, could possibly be the starting relay under dash, as I don't think its the starter itself.
  • And I'll be honest, I can't remember the last time I changed the oils. Its got some sort of engine oil leak somewhere (I suspect in the middle of the 'seam' that joins to 2 engine halves together) so I usually have to top it off every 3 or 4 months, so while not completely changed, there is part-new oil in it.

Transmission:

  • It does not produce any weird noises or groans or any of the sorts, shifts fine.
  • Have not opened the transmission up in over 2 years. I'm suspecting that it might need an almost complete rebuild, but that's just speculation. I know the belt has about 25-30k miles on it, and clutch has never been changed (however looking at it last time it was still fine, but that was a while ago). Only thing that has been replaced in it has been the belt once, and the weights. All other parts are original, and therefore going to be fairly worn, like the pulley faces.
  • Has DR Pulley slider weights, I can't remember which size, but want to say either 15g or 16g. But they have alot of miles on them, I'd say over 20k
Rims/Tires:

  • Tires front and back or Pirelli Diablo's, they still have a fair amount of tread life left on them.
  • Rims are fine as far as I can tell, don't believe they are bent or anything (shop I use for my tire change would tell me if they notice any issues, as I usually ask every tire change)
Steering:

  • Will possibly need new steering head bearings. Last year when I got it for VA Inspection, the guy said that it might not pass the following year due to the amount of indentation in them (you can feel it when moving handlebars side to die, the handlebars 'bump' into the indentation on the bearings. Personally did not feel any issues while riding though.
Body:

  • Seat is torn. Currently has a rip about 3 inches long right where your thighs hit. Also starting to notice alot more cracks starting to form around that area. Also has custom backrest that has been screwed onto the butt-stop. The backrest is showing age as it is just a stiff foam rubber type material.
  • Lower left leg shield scrapped up badly due to to many tight leaning left turns, Can not see while standing and looking at bike, only when kneeling down. This is a common scrapping point on the 400's.
  • Right leg shield is slightly beat up due to side-swipe that happened last year (kept bike up though, just damage from impact). Couple of tabs were busted, so the part thats right by your foot on the forward section of foot rest wants to constantly pop out.
  • Spot right behind seat on top has some deep scratches due to me carrying a chop-saw on the back seat and it slid backwards onto the plastics a little bit and didn't know.
  • Has Givi Windscreen that has been slightly chopped down, however the left 'hand shield' part of it has been snapped off. Was walking by with rolling trashcan and somehow caught the small point that runs down and snapped it right off. Been like this for about 3-4 years now, does not effect structural integrity of screen.
  • Has somewhat of a home-made top-box mount for an ST-LUN top box. I will include the top-box if wanted, but it no longer 'latches' onto the mount due to part inside box that latches it broke. Whenever I needed it, I just bungee corded it down to the mount.
  • Handlebar cover has few holes drilled into it for varies mounts I had attached (GPS/Cupholder).
  • All the black plastics have faded quite considerably over the years since it does not get parked in garage or covered.
  • Has grip puppies installed over grips.
  • Left mirror mount is slightly cracked from when I didn't pay attention and put my helmet on top of it and it pulled it down. Been this way for 5 years with no problems, its just there.
  • Both mirrors have slight rusting/pitting.
  • Right headlight has been modified to illuminate the low beam filament (one of the 'issues' with the 07 model with only the left light for low beam, and right light for high beam).
I am doing my best to be honest and to list all possibly problems with this bike, I do not want to try and mess someone over. There is possibilities that I have left things out that I can not think of, and if I remember any, I will add them to this post.

Any questions do not hesitate to ask.

The place I go to (great guys) said he won't pass it since they aren't DOT lights. But all he cares is if they were on when I brought it in, didn't care what I did 1 hour later =P
