how is it that you have 5 of these in one picture? I can't remember the last time I actually saw one. Too bad they did not keep making them.
Actually I've owned 15 of them in total . About 4 years ago I bought one for myself , then my son drove mine and liked it so I bought him one too . Then I got to thinking that they weren't making them any more , and maybe I should buy a couple extra in case some thing happened to one of ours . At the time the economy was pretty bad so I was able to buy more at some pretty reasonable prices . So I did and as the deals kept coming I kept buying for the simple reason I knew that eventually the super low mileage ones were going to go up in value . Eventually came sooner than I expected and I began selling them as fast as I could find them . Fast forward to now and that window of opportunity is gone , the prices went up so much that it's hard if not impossible to make money on them . I'm going to sell 2 more and then that's it I'll be out of the Big Ruckus business . To date I've owned 15 and I've sold 10 , I'm going to keep 3 for family use and sell 2 more . At this point I'll just break even on the last few sold but it was a good run while it lasted . They pretty much have a cult following now , and eventually they will go up in price even more .
In Japan a pristine low mileage Big Ruckus is selling for 10 to 11K in U.S. dollar equivalents . That is nearly double what they sold for at the dealer in 05 and 06 . I only deal in super low mileage units then I restore them to showroom condition . Every thing with the slightest imperfection is replaced , carb are re-jetted with the proper jets and I carried a full line of accessories for them . I sold one recently fully farkeled to a trust fund dude in Manhattan for nearly 8K , and that was after he bought a museum quality 1985 Honda Elite 250 from me . Then he wanted to start sending me bikes he was buying for his collection to restore . The guy was impressed with my bikes and wanted me to start doing his restorations . I had a heck of a time trying to explain to him that I wasn't in the restoration business . He thought because he could write the checks I could do the magic as he called it . I'm glad in a way it's coming to a close , I could see it was leading me some where I didn't want to go , and that is back in a business .
