In the search I read someone claimed Synthetic oil reduced oil consumption over non synthetic oil. Need an answer from someone who has the oil problem, is that the solution or what other ideas. Don't want to tear apart bike to mod, just oil suggestions please !

It is unlikely.

Genuine synthetic clears muck really well and has a small consistent molecule size, so it will tend to find the smallest of gaps in an older or worn engine and make consumption worse.
Finds ‘em, unblocks ‘em, escapes through ‘em

Consistent use may reduce wear over time and therefore oil consumption, but switching to synth in already worn or oil burning engine - I wouldn’t expect it to help.

It looks like you have already seen that early 400 owners who have looked into it suspect it’s a breather issue.

Yes I've searched the back writeups but just wndered if any new insights on the problem. Scooter has 46000 miles and I'm too old to want to spend much money on it. Still runs well so will just keep it running.

If the consumption is consistent just keep the level up
How much oil does it use?
Do you ride in cold weather?
Standard is 5-40
15-40 rotell or some other thicker oil will reduce consumption some
